David Brannan

David has been an educator in public schools for the past 28 years. He has been a classroom science teacher, a district-wide instructional technologist, a curriculum technologist for the Alaska Native Education Program, an information technology director, and a track and field coach.

David Brannan is a second-generation pole vaulter coached by his dad, who was the state championship in Wyoming in 1953 & 1954. David went on to win the state championship in Utah in 1985 & 1986 and set the state record of 4.88 meters, earning All-American honors. David went to Brigham Young University on an athletic scholarship, where he established the school record at 5.45 meters in 1991, won the WAC Championship 5 times, and qualified for the NCAA Championships 5 times - earning collegiate All-American honors. David is an Olympic Hopeful (Standard Qualifier) for the 1992 Barcelona games. He also produces the video “Women’s Pole Vault,” starring former world record holder and first Olympic Gold Medalist Stacy Dragila.

David still loves to pole vault, and his best masters mark is 4.22 meters. David looks forward to jumping in the Reno Pole Vault Summit with his kids each year.
